[ Hiatus ]
Hiatus brings dance, video, music, and light together in real time using a sensor that detects the performer's skeleton. Their movements are captured, transmitted, and analyzed, triggering a visual and auditory response to which they, in turn, respond. Contrary to conventional performance codes, the performer precedes the music, guides, and interacts with the video. He/she is both performer and conductor; he/she triggers and reacts. He/she plays with digital elements and makes them his/her stage partners.
This performance explores the relationship between humans and digital technology, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and its material dimension: the machine. The performer must feed data into the program to generate images and sounds, but must also contend with the bugs and latency inherent in the digital machine.
