The duo

The duo ILIAEB was founded in 2014 by choreographer and dancer Ilia Gilbertas and visual and digital artist Etienne Bernardot. The starting point for this collaboration was the desire to combine their artistic practices by creating choreographic performances where video projection becomes a true partner to the dancer(s).
Over the years, they have expanded their creative range by making experimental films, audio and video shows, and developing artistic and cultural exchange projects abroad.
The common thread running through the duo's creations is the confrontation of digital tools with dance, gesture, and more broadly, the material world. The artists explore the interstices between the analog and digital spheres through the use of sensors and/or hybrid video creation devices.
Etienne Bernardot

Étienne Bernardot is a hybrid and transdisciplinary artist, searching for new forms of expression. He conceives of creation as a true means of exchange, which has led him, in recent years, to participate in numerous international projects.
A visual artist who emerged from the VJ scene of the late 1990s, Étienne Bernardot co-founded KSKF in 2003, an association bringing together artists from all disciplines. There, he experimented with his visual creation practice for dance, theater, and digital installations. He began developing his own digital creative interfaces, linking digital elements between music, video, and light.
2011 marked the beginning of a new artistic direction. Étienne Bernardot sought to break free from the "all-computer" approach. He thus created live video creation devices allowing him to physically manipulate different materials, light sources or video projections captured by a camera and then broadcast on stage.
In 2014, he co-founded the dance and digital art company ILIAEB and continued his research on the relationship between the body and digital technology.
In recent years, he has directed some of his creations towards works addressing social themes such as ecology, the fight against inequality, solidarity, etc.

A multidisciplinary artist, Ilia Gilbertas was trained in major classical dance schools and began her career in 2006 with international companies such as the Béjart Ballet Lausanne and the Ballets de Cuba.
In 2010, she met the digital art company KSKF and began her work exploring the relationship between gesture and video. Simultaneously, Ilia Gilbertas created her own choreographies and her first lighting designs. She also continued her exploration by learning contortion, acrobatics, and photography, and performed in music hall shows.
In 2014, she co-founded the ILLIAEB company with artist Etienne Bernardot, incorporating movement capture into her choreography to generate video and music. She also directs experimental films.
Since 2018, she has continued to train in lighting techniques, notably by working on film shoots and shows.
